BEAUFORT – A 39-year-old man here became permanently blind in his right eye after he got into a drunken brawl with a friend over a misunderstanding at their workplace.
According to Beaufort district police chief DSP Azmir Abd Razak, the incident occurred at the attacker’s residence at Kg Benonok last night while they were consuming alcohol.
Apparently, the friend was scolded by their supervisor at work two months ago – and because the victim failed to defend him, the attacker was upset.
“The suspect then challenged the victim to a fight, who was attacked with a broom while he tried to run away,” Azmir said. “It also seems that the attacker exclaimed: ‘You are really not bold, right? Come let me “test” you!’ during their fight.”
The policeman added that the suspect then broke the broom and hit the victim’s face, instantly piercing the man’s right eye. The victim then fled to the neighbouring house for help to send him to the hospital.
There were no witnesses to the incident.
Azmir said that the doctors who treated the victim confirmed that his right eye was severely damaged, to the point that the man’s disability will be permanent.
“The victim’s mother lodged a police report last night after questioning the victim over his sudden blindness,” the policeman said.
The attacker has since been detained here, and police are investigating the case under section 326 of the Penal Code. – The Vibes, February 17, 2021
