GEORGE TOWN – PLUS Malaysia Bhd has assured the public that the integrity of the Penang Bridge remains intact and it is safe for use despite yesterday’s fire, which affected TNB cables located under Km3.2 of the bridge.
In a statement today, PLUS said the fire was extinguished at 7.30pm yesterday and no one was injured in the incident.
It said the right lanes on both sides of the bridge at the fire incident location will remain closed for a few days to facilitate investigations being jointly carried out by TNB, the Fire and Rescue Department, and police.
“During this period, PLUS encourages all road users to use the Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge to lessen congestion caused by the lane closures,” it added. – Bernama, February 23, 2021
