KOTA KINABALU – The magistrates’ court has scheduled Thursday to fix the trial date of a clerk who allegedly implicated former deputy home minister Datuk Azis Jamman in an immigration support letter scam.
Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun fixed February 25 for pre-trial case management.
Reports today said 35-year-old Rohani Mohd Ismail was charged with cheating 127 people of RM5,334, by allegedly writing them support letters for a fee.
The letters, purportedly addressed to Azis, allegedly led the unsuspecting applicants to believe that they would obtain the former deputy home minister’s support to gain “entry permits” and the MyPR status.
According to the charge sheet, Rohani is accused of typing 127 support letters to help approve their applications.
She allegedly committed the offence at around 2.30pm on November 22, 2018 at the Areney Enterprise, Jalan Haji Yaakob in Kampung Air, here.
The charge comes under Section 420 of the Penal Code and brings with it a jail sentence of not more than 10 years, plus whipping and fine.
Rohani was already charged with the same offence on April 17, 2019, but was given a discharge not amounting to acquittal on May 15, 2019.
However, on June 11, 2019 the same charges were brought against her again, to which she pleaded not guilty and has since been released on a RM2,000 bail with two sureties. – The Vibes, February 23, 2021
