BUKIT MERTAJAM – A stage-four bowel cancer patient has committed suicide due to emotional stress.

In the incident at his house in Taman Sri Arowana, Seberang Jaya, the victim, Chan Chuan Sen, 59, was found dead by his wife Wong Wai Kuen, 57, who had just returned from work at 5.30pm yesterday.

Seberang Prai Tengah district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shafee Abd Samad said the victim, who was left alone, was found lying on a sofa in the living room, with electric wires connected to his limbs.

“The victim was found with an electrical wire connected to the middle finger of one of his hands and the second toe of his left foot.

“The wire was also connected to a three-pin socket with a timer in the living room.

“When his wife returned home, she found a thread tied to the main door knob that was connected to the house’s main electrical switchboard,” he said in a statement today.

Shafee said it is understood that the victim had planned to commit suicide, and no evidence of foul play was detected at the scene.

He said a post-mortem also confirmed that the victim had died of an electric shock. The case was classified as sudden death.

Meanwhile, in Bayan Lepas, a lorry collided with a traffic light at Persiaran Kelicap and almost crashed into another road user, in an incident at 4pm yesterday.

Southwest District police chief Superintendent A. Anbalagan said the accident happened when the truck’s brakes failed to work and caused the driver to lose control and hit the traffic light.

“The 26-year-old driver did not suffer any injuries.

“The truck was damaged in the front, the left side, and the left rear tyre broke. The traffic light was also damaged.”

Anbalagan said the driver was detained for investigation, and a drug test on the man returned negative.

The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. – The Vibes, February 24, 2021
