KOTA KINABALU – Police have shut down a drug distribution syndicate here with the detention of a local suspect last Thursday.
Kota Kinabalu police chief Habibi Majinji said a team from the Kota Kinabalu Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division found a packet of ketamine in the 27-year-old suspect’s pocket at a residential unit in Alam Damai Condominium here.
Further investigations carried out inside the unit revealed six packets of ketamine and seven packets of “juice drugs”. Plastic packets containing ecstasy powder were also found in the living and main rooms. All the drugs are believed to be for distribution to dealers here.
The total drugs seized were 6.38g of ecstasy, 87.89g of ketamine and 781.59g of juice drug powder, estimated to have a street price of RM11,971.80.
Habibi said the suspect does not have a permanent job and is believed to be a syabu deliveryman, who acts as a middleman between a drug distribution syndicate and distributors here.
The suspect received between RM5,000 and RM6,000 each month depending on drug demand.
The suspect does not have a previous record. However, his urine test results returned positive for ketamine.
In the raid, a Toyota 86 DBA-ZN6 and Hilux, RM3,000 cash and two mobile phones were also seized, with a total estimated worth of RM 353,000.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides for the death penalty by hanging upon conviction. It will also be investigated under Sections 39A (1) and 12 (2) of the same act.
The suspect has been remanded for seven days to facilitate investigation. – The Vibes, February 27, 2021
