KOTA KINABALU – After Warisan reproduced his oath of allegiance from last September, Sebatik assemblyman Hassan A. Gani Pg Amir now says he was forced to make pledge or risk losing his candidacy.
On February 25, Hassan left Warisan to become an independent friendly towards the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) ruling coalition.
He said he had to make the pledge to Warisan, or he would not be named as a candidate for the Sabah state election last September.
“It is true I made the pledge but it is not valid as I was forced to do it. If I had refused, I would not be made a candidate,” he said on his Facebook today.
He reiterated his switch in allegiance, saying it was because of “his constituents”.
Effort to reach out to Hassan remains unanswered, triggering speculation about how he was enticed to switch sides.
Earlier, Warisan president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal said Hassan must honour his pledge and step down as assemblyman.
Shafie also took a swipe at GRS parties, saying that while many had lost their jobs due to the Covid-19 pandemic and struggled to put food on the table, the ruling coalition still had the funds to buy elected reps.
He noted from other Warisan reps that some were enticed to the tune of millions of ringgit. – The Vibes, March 1, 2021
