KUALA LUMPUR – Sabah Umno will try its best to not have bad ties with Sabah Bersatu like what is happening in Kuala Lumpur, said chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin.
Determined to have a different political formula, Bung Moktar said he will ensure both state chapters continue to have good working relations.
This is because Sabahans have entrusted the ruling Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), in which both parties are components, to develop the state, he added.
“We are different in Sabah. Sabah is lagging behind in development, and now (it is made) worse during the pandemic.
“GRS has the responsibility to revive Sabah’s economy and, at the same time, strengthen its politics.”
Bung Moktar said both parties have during the state election last year promised the people that GRS will be stable and have cooperation among its components to develop the state.
“Right now, Sabah must have a new formula for GRS parties to ensure what has happened in West Malaysia will never happen in Sabah,” he said at a press conference, after Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi delivered his policy speech at the Umno general assembly today.
Zahid said Umno will not cooperate with any party other than those in Barisan Nasional in the upcoming 15th general election, and reiterated its Supreme Council’s decision to not work with Bersatu in the polls.
Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who is prime minister, yesterday said it is Umno’s choice and right to make such a decision.
Muhyiddin and other Bersatu leaders are conspicuously absent at the Umno general assembly, which saw leaders from other parties, like PAS, MCA, MIC and Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah, gracing the event today.
On Zahid’s speech, Bung said it is important for all Umno members, including those from the grassroots, to formulate a new strategy.
“Umno is not stable right now following its lost in the last general election. So, a new strategy is needed to win the people’s hearts.
“With this new strategy, I think Umno will return to its former glory and become a dominant party.” – The Vibes, March 28, 2021
