KUALA LUMPUR – Work to stabilise the structure and remove the gantry crane at the Sg Besi-Ulu Klang Elevated Expressway (SUKE) construction site near Alam Damai, Cheras, where three Chinese nationals died on Monday, is expected to take two weeks.
Projek Lintasan Kota Holdings Sdn Bhd (Prolintas), in a statement today, said the removal of the crane and repairs began yesterday upon receiving approval from the Occupational Safety and Health Department (DOSH).
“The work encompasses two phases: the U-beam structure stabilisation, which stands at 60% progress today, before work to remove the gantry crane commences.”
It said the entire process is complicated, with technical aspects, the weather, the safety of construction workers and nearby residents, and the structure’s condition to be taken into consideration.
SUKE is cooperating with engineering consultants and the authorities, including the Malaysian Highway Authority, DOSH and Construction Industry Development Board, on the repairs.
In a statement yesterday, SUKE said it has prepared a parking area, pedestrian walkways and shuttle van services for Puncak Banyan condominium residents and others living nearby who are affected by this week’s incident.
Three Chinese nationals, who were construction workers, died, while the driver of a car passing by was seriously injured when part of the crane collapsed. – Bernama, March 28, 2021
