A Penang fire brigade spokesman said it received an emergency call at 12.51pm.
“Two teams from the Penanti and Bukit Mertajam fire stations were sent to the scene. Upon arrival, they found that a fire had broken out in an office space on the ground floor.”
He said the office space was about 30% burnt and the fire was brought under control at 1.10pm.

Meanwhile, Permatang Pauh Umno chief Datuk Mohd Zaidi Mohd Said said he estimated a loss of more than RM70,000 as some electrical and electronic goods were damaged.
He added that two staff members who were on duty had gone out for lunch at the time, before the fire was reported by members of the public who were nearby.
“Among the items destroyed were documents, computers, photocopy machines, printers, air-conditioning units and other office equipment.
“I was informed by the Fire and Rescue Department that it may have been caused by a short circuit from the office air-conditioning unit.” – The Vibes, April 6, 2021
