MIRI – Longhouse chiefs and community leaders must seek permission from the respective district office before social activities are allowed to take place, including funerals.
The directive applies to districts with few or no Covid-19 cases, as Sarawak tops the list of states with 385 new infections today.
State Disaster Management Committee Datuk Douglas Uggah Ebbas told a press conference in Kuching today that there will be no compromise on the new directive that takes effect today.
“It is mandatory for all community leaders to obey. Any social activity in their settlements, including funerals and gatherings, must be reported to the district office before it is allowed to take place.
“The district office will assign teams of police and Rela personnel to control these activities. There have been too many infections and deaths due to Covid-19 spread through social activities.”
Of today’s new infections, Sri Aman logged 129 cases, followed by Bintulu (52), Miri (45), Kuching (22), Saratok (13), Sri Aman (10) and other districts with fewer than 10.
A new cluster called Jalan Maju was recorded in Sibu, referring to the workplace of the index case detected on March 27. As of today, the Health Ministry said of the 80 individuals screened, 34 tested positive.
Sarawak has 40 active clusters and a death toll of 114. Last week, all social activities in red and orange zones were banned. – The Vibes, April 6, 2021
