KUALA LUMPUR - Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will finally have his audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.

In a statement today, the PKR president said His Majesty has granted him an audience next Tuesday (October 13), and that he would be presenting evidence of support to the king.

“At the meeting, I will present documentation of the strong and convincing majority of MPs as I have mentioned earlier.

“I ask all Malaysians to remain calm, protect their health and continue to pray from their homes and workplaces and follow the recovery movement control order (RMCO) procedures,” he said.

Anwar’s statement comes two weeks after he first claimed that he has the majority support of the Dewan Rakyat to form a new government.

In a special press conference on September 23, the Port Dickson MP had claimed that he has the backing of close to two-thirds of MPs, and that Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s government has effectively collapsed as a result.

However, he did not divulge exact figures, saying that this would only be done after his audience with the Agong.

The meeting was, however, forced to be postponed as the king had to be admitted to the National Heart Institute for food poisoning and intervention treatment for a sports-related injury.

According to Anwar, he had spoken to His Majesty prior to his announcement, to inform on the majority support that he enjoys from the lawmakers.

The palace, in a statement later that day, confirmed that both Anwar and his wife Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail had been granted an audience, but said the appointment had to be pushed back as the ruler was unwell.

The Agong was discharged on October 2, and has since been resting at Istana Negara.

Meanwhile, The Vibes had reported that at least 15 Umno MPs have agreed to back Anwar as prime minister, without any expectation of positions.

However, several of the party backbenchers have since denied supporting the Port Dickson MP, although a number of them acknowledged that many in the party are growing discontent with Muhyiddin’s administration. - The Vibes, October 8, 2020
