SEREMBAN – There is no criminal element in the incident involving two MV Rapallo Romanian crewmen, who were burnt by fuel while on duty in the engine room of the ship, which was docked at the Jimah Energy Ventures terminal in Port Dickson, yesterday.
Nilai police chief Aidi Sham Mohamed said the incident has been classified as an industrial accident, adding that preliminary investigations did not find any criminal element or deliberate intent.
He said police received a report from the shipping agent at about 11.15pm yesterday, informing them about the incident involving crewmen Cristian Eugen Rusu and Ionel Laurentiu Timpu.
“Both victims, aged 29, were said to be conducting routine work on the ship when they were splashed by hot ship fuel.
“The victims were brought to Port Dickson Hospital for treatment and suffered burns to 50% of their bodies.”
Aidi Sham said both victims are now in stable condition and have been transferred to Mannipal Klang Hospital in Selangor for further treatment.
He said MV Rapollo from Australia has docked at the terminal near here since April 5, and is carrying coal.
The ship is expected to leave today. – Bernama, April 8, 2021
