KUALA LUMPUR – Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) leadership will be taking a “big tent” approach to rope in and unite more Malaysians from various layers of society regardless of political stances, to regain parliamentary democracy and end Parliament’s continued suspension.
The big tent, or catch-all party, is used in reference to a political party’s policy of permitting or encouraging a broad spectrum of views among its members.
“We will continue pursuing the nation’s aspiration by taking a big tent approach and uniting Malaysians from every layer of society, without taking into account political leanings,” the statement by PH read.
For this purpose, PH leadership said a memorandum signed by all MPs who support the reconvening of Parliament will be presented to the Yang-Dipertuan Agong, given that His Majesty has decreed that a state of emergency should not be an obstacle for the august house to sit.
“We reiterate our readiness to negotiate and cooperate with any party based on the principle of reformation and well-being of the people, without the involvement of kleptocrats,” the statement added.
The statement by PH comes only a day after the coalition’s leadership announced that PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will lead the pact into the upcoming general elections.
The leadership also stated that should the coalition win, the country would see the Port Dickson MP become the next prime minister. – The Vibes, April 10, 2021
