KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia registered 1,510 fresh Covid-19 infections today, the Health Ministry reported.
This brings the nation’s virus tally to 359,117 cases.
Selangor recorded the highest number of cases today at 415, while Sarawak recorded 296.
Kelantan registered 171, Sabah (131), Kuala Lumpur (106), Penang (101), Johor (80), Kedah (59), Perak (46), Terengganu (44), Negri Sembilan (28), Pahang (13), Putrajaya (10), Melaka (6), Labuan (2) and Perlis (2).
Meanwhile, eight new fatalities were recorded, all of whom were Malaysian citizens. This brings the death toll to 1,321. The Health Ministry also reported 1,248 recoveries, bringing Malaysia’s tally for discharged virus patients to 342,737.
As of today, 194 cases are under intensive care and 81 required intubation.
Today, the country recorded nine new clusters, bringing the total of active clusters to 343. The clusters with the highest increase in new cases are Sg Kluang Empat (30 cases), Rich Park (28) and Kg Belaoh (24).
Of the new clusters, six are workplace related and three are community clusters.
The Industri Jalan Kebun cluster involves Klang and Petaling after a targeted screening of workers in Klang’s Techno Industrial Park on April 7. As of today, 35 tested positive and 111 individuals were screened.
The Pujut Satu cluster in Miri was detected after the screening of a symptomatic individuals on March 29. So far, 116 people have been tested and 24 cases recorded.
Kelantan’s Bandar Baru Kubang Kerian cluster involves Tumpat, Bachok and Kota Baru. It also involves employees of a financial institution and their close contacts. For now, 34 tested positive and 344 screened.
Kuala Lumpur’s Jalan Tun Ismail cluster in Kepong, Titiwangsa and Cheras was detected after a civil servant tested positive on April 2. It now has 15 cases after a screening of 32 individuals.
Johor’s two workplace clusters – Jalan Kempas Satu and Jalan Padu Industri – recorded a total of 23 cases. The Jalan Kempas Satu cluster in Muar involves workers at a furniture factory where eight tested positive. Johor Baru’s Jalan Padu Industri cluster also involves factory workers. Of the 270 screened, 15 were found to have the virus.
The three community clusters are in Selangor, Sarawak and Terengganu.
Selangor’s Kg Kelanang cluster in the Kuala Langat district has 12 cases while Sarawak’s Jalan Kapitan cluster in Marudi recorded 22 infections.
Lastly: the Kg Tanjung cluster that was recorded Kuala Nerus and Dungun, Terengganu, and Pasir Puteh in Kelantan. So far, 273 individuals have been screened and 13 found positive.
