TANGKAK – The decision on whether to close schools over Covid-19 is made based on a joint assessment by the district health office, state government and Education Ministry, said Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba.
This includes assessments of cases of school staff and students who undergo quarantine or home surveillance after testing positive.
“However, if the cases involve only students and not school staff, the school can stay open,” Dr Adham told reporters here today.
He was asked to comment on whether the Education Ministry has proposed closures in the case of coronavirus outbreaks at schools.
It follows a directive by the Kelantan Education Department for all education institutions in seven districts under the movement control order to be closed from today until April 24.
Dr Adham added that a total of 9,916 individuals aged 75 and above are scheduled to receive the Covid-19 vaccine under Phase 2 of the national inoculation drive that begins tomorrow.
They will get the jab at 30 vaccination centres – five each in Kedah, Pahang and Penang, Sabah (4), Terengganu and Melaka (3 each), Negri Sembilan (2), and Perlis, Sarawak and Labuan (1 each). – Bernama, April 18, 2021
