KUALA LUMPUR – It is presumptuous and irresponsible for Muda co-founder and Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman to impose his fantasies on the supposed Umno-PKR alliance, said PKR chief organising secretary Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.
Nik Nazmi said in a statement that his party’s leaders, including president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, have pointed out repeatedly that there are no formal discussions with Umno on the question of forming a government.
“It should be noted that as per social media, leaders from Muda recently met with Anwar.
“PKR and Pakatan Harapan are now firmly focused on winning the next general election guided by the spirit of the Port Dickson declaration.
“As such, Syed Saddiq’s protestations are presumptuous and irresponsible. He has the right to air his opinion. This does not include the right to impose his fantasies on the public.”
Mingguan Malaysia today reported Syed Saddiq as saying that he would rather Muda stay in the opposition than join the Umno-PKR alliance, even if the two parties may form the government in the future.
He added that although he supports the movement to make opposition leader Anwar prime minister, it should not come at the cost of cooperating with “kleptocrats” and long-time foe Umno.
“My stance is that I am still in the opposition bloc. I have no problem supporting Anwar, I support his reform policies.
“If he suddenly says, ‘Saddiq, come join the government with Zahid and Najib’, I will say, ‘it’s okay, I refuse’. I will not compromise in our fight against kleptocracy,” said the Muar MP, referring to Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
He added that he would be seen as the biggest hypocrite should he and Muda join the Umno-PKR alliance.
On April 10, Pakatan Harapan’s leadership said it would be taking a “big tent” approach to rope in and unite more Malaysians from various layers of society regardless of political stances, to regain parliamentary democracy and end Parliament’s continued suspension.
The phrases “big tent” or “catch-all party” are used in reference to a political party’s policy of permitting or encouraging a broad spectrum of views among its members.
“We will continue pursuing the nation’s aspiration by taking a big tent approach and uniting Malaysians from every layer of society, without taking political leanings into account,” the statement by PH read.
“We reiterate our readiness to negotiate and cooperate with any party based on the principle of reformation and the people’s well-being, without the involvement of kleptocrats,” the statement added.
The statement comes only a day after the coalition’s leadership announced that Anwar would lead the pact into the upcoming general election.
The leadership also stated that should the coalition win, the country would see the Port Dickson MP become the next prime minister. – The Vibes, April 25, 2021
