SEREMBAN – People are urged to bring their own food and beverage containers, as well as reusable bags, when they visit Ramadan bazaars.
SWM Environment Sdn Bhd corporate affairs general manager Mohd Norlisam Mohd Nordin, in a statement today, said this will reduce the amount of waste generated, including plastic waste.
“The increase in plastic waste from food packaging in the month of Ramadan is feared to lead to continuous environmental pollution.
“It is time for us to create a new culture of ‘tapau’ (takeaway) when it comes to buying food to break fast.
“Use your own food containers, such as tiffin carriers, as well as reusable bags.”
The company also called on the public not to buy food excessively.
If there are leftovers, it said, the food should not be thrown away, but given to those in need. – Bernama, April 26, 2021
