KUALA LUMPUR – Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani will be the nation’s top cop effective Tuesday, said Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.
IGP Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador’s contract ends on May 3, and the handover of duties will be done on that day.
Acryl Sani will take on the post proper the following day. His tenure as IGP will last until October 3 this year.
“After the deliberation process, all parties, including the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and Tan Sri Hamid, agreed to (Acryl Sani’s) appointment. I would like to congratulate Acryl Sani on his appointment, on behalf of my ministry,” Hamzah told a press conference today.
On Acryl Sani’s replacement, Hamzah said the process to select a new deputy IGP will begin after the position is officially vacated on Tuesday.
“At the moment, he (Acryl Sani) is still the deputy IGP. We will find his replacement and seek Tuanku’s (Agong’s) approval. Once Acryl Sani has been appointed IGP and the position (of deputy IGP) is vacant, we will look for his replacement.”
The process will also go through the Police Force Commission, where two to three names will be submitted for consideration, he said.
Acryl Sani, 59, was appointed deputy IGP on August 14 last year.
In a statement released by the Home Ministry, Acryl Sani was born on October 3 in Petaling Jaya, Selangor. He holds a Master of Science (Management) from Universiti Utara Malaysia and a Bachelor’s degree (Hons) in Civil Engineering. He joined the force on February 2, 1986 as an ASP cadet.
During his career in the force, he has helmed Bukit Aman’s Commercial Crime Investigation Department, Strategic Resources and Technology Department, and Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department. – The Vibes, April 30, 2021
