KUALA LUMPUR – It is another day of record-high Covid-19 cases as Malaysia logs 3,788 infections, of with Selangor accounts for 1,265.
This is the highest daily count since February 6, when the nation had 3,847 daily infections.
Today also saw 14 fatalities to the virus, taking the death toll to 1,506.
According to statistics shared by Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, the new cases have brought Malaysia’s cumulative total to 408,713 infections.
A total of 328 cases are currently in intensive care, the highest figure recorded thus far, while 161 require ventilators.
Some 2,640 patients were discharged in the past 24 hours.
Meanwhile, the Health Ministry said 62.7% of today’s cases are from Selangor, Sarawak and Kelantan.
Sarawak saw the second-highest number of infections with 760 cases, followed by Kelantan (464), Kuala Lumpur (255) and Penang (250).
Johor has 160 cases while Negri Sembilan and Kedah each have 136 cases, followed by Perak (118), Sabah (89), Melaka (55), Pahang (54) and Terengganu (37).
States with fewer than 10 cases are Perlis (5), Labuan (2) and Putrajaya (2).
In a statement, Dr Noor Hisham said the ministry has identified 17 new clusters today, taking the total to 1,655, of which 390 are active.
Some 84 of the active clusters also saw additional new infections, with the Jalan Dataran cluster showing the highest spike (88 cases), followed by Perusahaan Baru Dua (81), and Pintu Air Relau (65).
Of the new reported clusters, Dr Noor Hisham said five involved the community and workplace; four are from the education sector; and there was one each from the high risk, religious, and detention centre clusters.
The five community clusters are Nanga Tajam (34 cases); Sg Ranan (31) and Sg Ngungun (27) in Sarawak; Kg Bergosong (21) in Sabah; and Kg Hilir Alor Gajah (18) in Melaka.
The workplace clusters are Kemayang (15 cases) in Kelantan; Jalan Taming Dua (12) in Selangor; Air Padang (19) in Sarawak; and Penang’s Perusahaan Baru Dua (113) and Jalan Todak Satu construction site (23).
The education clusters consist of Jalan Wau (37 cases) in Selangor; Chersonese (17) in Perak; Jalan Agama (38) in Sarawak; and Jalan Dataran (96) in Negri Sembilan. Meanwhile, the three remaining clusters are KL’s Taman Batu Hijau high-risk cluster (11); Johor’s Pagar Rimba detention centre cluster (12), and Jalan Sultanah (religious category) with 22 infections. – The Vibes, April 30, 2021
