PETALING JAYA – The 15th PKR national congress will be held on June 5 and 6 at Raja Muda Musa Hall in Section 7, Shah Alam.
Secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the gathering, themed “Pentas Rakyat”, will be held both on and offline, in compliance with Covid-19 standard operating procedures.
“The Youth and Women’s wings will hold their national congress simultaneously on June 5, while the main congress will be on June 6,” he told a press conference here today.
“PKR expects only about 1,000 delegates to be physically present from 152 branches nationwide, except for Sabah and Sarawak. The others will follow the congress via Zoom.”
He said the meet will focus on the party president’s policy speech, to be given on June 5, followed by debates and the winding-up session the next day.
“We are aware that the Covid-19 pandemic has had a direct impact on the people in terms of economy and health, therefore, the congress will focus on these two topics, in addition to political issues.”
No foreign delegates will be invited this time, he said, with invitations to be given only to DAP and Amanah leaders.
Saifuddin Nasution added that party polls will not be held this year, as they have been postponed for a period not exceeding 18 months.
“There is a provision in the party constitution that allows the elections to be postponed by no more than 18 months... the polls are due in December, but applying the 18-month period, they must be held no later than June 2023.” – Bernama, May 3, 2021
