KUALA LUMPUR – Only two Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission officers are allegedly linked to Geng Nicky, said Datuk Seri Azam Baki.
The MACC chief confirmed that no other personnel are said to be involved in the matter.
The MACC duo were detained along with 10 police officers six days ago in an operation to hunt down those allegedly conspiring with the criminal organisation.
Azam was quoted by Harian Metro today as saying the two officers are still with the commission, and may face suspension if they are charged in court.
“So far, only two have been arrested, and I hand it over to police if there is a case (in relation to Geng Nicky). I can confirm that no other officers are said to be involved.
“We are waiting for police to investigate and submit their report to the attorney-general for further action.”
On April 27, Johor police chief Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay announced that the arrests were made by state Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) personnel under Phase 2 of Op Pelican 3.0.
“From April 21 to 26, Johor CCID personnel conducted operations in Selangor, Melaka, Negri Sembilan and Kuala Lumpur. The 12 arrested are aged between 36 and 49.”
Among those nabbed are an inspector and a superintendent based at the Bukit Aman federal police headquarters, he said.
A deputy superintendent and assistant superintendent with Special Branch, and two inspectors from the Selangor police contingent, were also detained.
A deputy superintendent was arrested in Melaka, and two assistant superintendents from the Kuala Lumpur police contingent held.
An inspector from a police training centre was picked up in Negri Sembilan, while the two MACC personnel were detained in Putrajaya.
Investigations are being conducted under Sections 130V to 130ZB of the Penal Code, concerning offences relating to organised crime.
Azam said the two MACC officers have been handed over to police for investigation.
