Another 5 deaths, 391 infections even as S’wak tightens Covid-19 SOPs

MIRI – Sarawak today confirmed another five Covid-19 deaths and 391 infections, even as the state Disaster Management Committee (DMC) said it is working on stricter “circuit-breaker SOPs” to curb the disease.

The latest fatalities include a 44-year-old man who collapsed at home in Bintangor town, central Sarawak, and was dead upon arrival at a clinic.

The state DMC, in a statement, said tests confirmed that he died of Covid-19.

The other four deaths are a 79-year-old man at Sibu Hospital, a 75-year-old man at Sarikei Hospital, a 71-year-old man at Bintulu Hospital, and a 79-year-old woman at Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching.

These take the state’s coronavirus death toll to 195.

Sibu recorded 88 new infections, followed by Bintulu (55), Miri (50), Kapit (33), Kuching (26), Selangau (23), Sri Aman (19), Samarahan (11) and other districts (fewer than 10).

There are 76 clusters statewide.

“We urge Sarawakians not to travel to high-risk districts, and states that are already under the MCO (movement control order). We are tightening our SOPs in Sarawak,” said the state DMC. – The Vibes, May 6, 2021
