KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has urged the government to establish a royal commission of inquiry (RCI) to investigate the controversial allegations made recently by former attorney-general Tan Sri Tommy Thomas and former top cop Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador.

The Umno president said he would call ministers representing Umno to press the Perikatan Nasional administration on this.

“The revelations of the two former heads who led two important government organisations are very serious, especially those involving political interference and corruption in the institutions which are the bastions of defending the supremacy of the constitution, the rule of law and national security, ” he said in a statement today.

He said the setting up of the RCI is aimed at speeding up the restoration of trust and confidence of the people towards vital institutions.

Zahid also voiced support for the call by Umno Youth in demanding the government set up the RCI.

On May 2, in his last media conference as inspector-general of police, Hamid made allegations of political interference in the force during his tenure. – Bernama, May 7, 2021
