KUALA LUMPUR – Casting wide its net of restrictions to curb Covid-19, the government is placing Kuantan, Pahang, as well as three districts and three subdistricts in Penang under the movement control order (MCO).
The government has also decided to direct premises, including Ramadan bazaars, listed as being at-risk in the Hotspot Identification for Dynamic Engagement (HIDE) system to shut for three days effective immediately.
Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said enforcement activities at all the premises will be monitored by the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry, armed forces, police and local authorities.
“The government wants to announce that all Ramadan and Aidilfitri bazaars in areas under MCOs will be closed from Monday,” he was quoted as saying by Bernama.
The three Penang districts under full lockdown are Timur Laut, Seberang Prai Tengah and Seberang Prai Selatan, while the subdistricts are Bandar Butterworth, 12 Barat Daya and 14 Seberang Prai Utara.
The MCOs in these areas are scheduled to start on Monday and end on May 23.
The National Security Council (NSC) will also impose MCOs on Perak subdistricts, namely Pengkalan Hulu, Belukar Semang in Hulu Perak, and Hulu Kinta, which covers Ipoh, Lahat, Chemor and Tg Rambutan.
The MCOs in Kuantan and Perak will be implemented from May 10 to May 23.
The government has decided to place Genting View Resort, Meranti Apartment, Windmill Upon Hills, Vista Residences, Mawar Apartments, Midhills at Genting and Ramin Apartment, all in Pahang, under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO).
Similarly, Kg Meripoh and Kota Bahagia in Rompin, Pahang, will also be placed under EMCO.
The EMCOs in these areas are scheduled to start on Monday and end on May 23.
On the other hand, the NSC has announced the ending of EMCOs in Bandar Sri Indah and Kg Titingan in Tawau, and Kg Dambai Inanam in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, tomorrow.
The Health Ministry’s HIDE system has named 152 sites at risk of becoming hotspots over a seven-day horizon in its first list today.
The system will generate a list of predicted premises every day, and will publish the list to facilitate self-regulation by the general and businesses.
In the list today, Kuala Lumpur leads with 66 premises, while Selangor has 54, Johor (9), Penang (5) and Sarawak (4), while Kelantan, Putrajaya, Perak and Sabah have three each.
Melaka and Negri Sembilan have only one at-risk area each.
Noticeably, most of the 152 sites in the list are shopping centres, markets and stores. – The Vibes, May 8, 2021
