PASIR MAS – More than 500 vehicles attempting to enter Kelantan without interstate travel permits were ordered to turn back yesterday, said state police chief Datuk Shafien Mamat.
He said the figure was recorded between 12am and 5pm at the state’s three main entry points, namely Gua Musang, Pasir Puteh and Jeli.
There were a handful of motorists who produced travel permits without police verification, he said.
“Police were able to detect the tactic, and these people were ordered to turn back,” he told reporters after inspecting the Bunut Susu sub-district enhanced movement control order (EMCO) control centre at SK Penggu this morning.
Present was Pasir Mas district police chief Mohd Nasaruddin M. Nasir.
On the EMCO imposed on the sub-district, Shafien said more than 100 personnel from the police force, armed forces, People’s Volunteer Corps and Civil Defence Force will be on duty in the three localities in the area, which has over 1,800 residents.
“The EMCO involves three relatively large localities. The personnel involved will be tasked with controlling people’s movements and monitoring more than 30 rat lanes.”
