SANDAKAN – Residents here have taken on the role of “rubbish police” as they began monitoring the performance of the new rubbish collection contractors who started working today.
Sandakan’s social media users uploaded photos of collected and uncollected rubbish around their residential areas.
From photos posted on Facebook, the huge rubbish pile in Sri Taman Mile 3½ has been cleared while the rubbish pile in Taman Fajar Mile 7 is still left untouched, as confirmed by The Vibes.
In March this year, Sandakan Municipal Council (SMC) announced the appointment of two new rubbish collection contractors in the district, namely TTK Maju Jaya and Wijaya.
TTK Maju Jaya will collect rubbish in Zone A (Sandakan town, Karamunting, Sim-Sim, and Sibuha) and Wijaya will collect rubbish in Zone B (from Sibuga to Taman Utama and Mile 32).
The announcement was important to the people of Sandakan as the district has been without a rubbish contractor since May last year.
Upon being contacted by The Vibes, SMC President Wong Foo Tin said: “Let’s see (how the contractors will perform)”.
Wong said SMC will inspect and monitor the work of the new contractors, while the locals at 345 residential locations are hoping that their rubbish problem will be resolved once and for all. –The Vibes, May 15, 2021
