KUALA LUMPUR – Istana Negara has revealed that Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim did not submit a list of MPs who are supporting his latest bid to take over Putrajaya during the audience with the King this morning.
Comptroller of the Royal Household, Datuk Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin, said the opposition leader did not provide the names to substantiate his claims.
Instead, the PKR president had in an audience with Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah merely given the number of MPs who purportedly back him.
“And so, Sultan Abdullah has advised him to adhere to and respect legal procedures stated in the Federal Constitution,” read a statement by Ahmad Fadil.
Anwar’s audience with Sultan Abdullah was announced two weeks after he had claimed on Sept 23 to have majority support of MPs and that Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s government had “collapsed”.
He had claimed to have a “formidable” majority with backing of Umno MPs, among others. The list was said to have 15 MPs, but it eventually grew to 20 and was later denied by those named in it on social media.
At a press conference at 2pm today, Anwar said he had a fruitful discussion with the King and hoped for the latter to use his discretion and act seriously on the matter.
“It (the support) has reached more than 120 (MPs), but because the Agong will call party presidents we must give the Agong space and time,” he said.
“The Agong has his own discretion and we should not be giving him any deadlines. We must be patient,” he added.
Meanwhile, leaders of six parties - DAP, PAS, MIC, Umno, Amanah and MCA - are expected to have an audience with the Agong over the next two weeks.
The line-up is in addition to veteran politician and Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, who came to Istana Negara for a royal audience to discuss matters related to the current political situation at 2pm today. - The Vibes, October 13, 2020
