BUTTERWORTH – An entertainment centre in Jalan Raja Uda here has been ordered to close, and its owner and staff fined RM10,000 and RM1,500 each, respectively, for failing to adhere to movement control order standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Seberang Prai Utara police chief Noorzainy Mohd Noor said police, along with Seberang Prai City Council and Health Ministry personnel, conducted a joint operation to ensure entertainment outlets in the district comply with SOPs.
“The 55-year-old owner, his workers and two female customers were detained for investigation and compounded for the offences.
“The owner failed to ensure customers and employees used the MySejahtera app and scan their body temperatures before entering the outlet.”
Health Department officers have issued a notice to shut the outlet for seven days to install the Mysejahtera app and body temperature scanner to ensure customers and employees observe Covid-19 SOPs.
In another development, Noorzainy said police have also arrested two men and two women, aged between 42 and 51, for possession of drugs at a house in Kepala Batas.
Acting on a tip-off, police raided the house and seized 5,244g of syabu, with a market value of RM204,400, he added.
He said the drugs could have been supplied to 5,000 addicts, adding that two vehicles were seized in the raid.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a mandatory death penalty upon conviction. – The Vibes, May 23, 2021
