KUALA TERENGGANU – Interstate travel by 35 individuals from Covid-19 red zones to Terengganu for the recent Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration has led to 90 new infections in the state.
State health director Dr Nor Azimi Yunus, in a Facebook post today, said the matter was uncovered after it was determined that many of those infected are family members.
He said a surge in cases was detected in localities in three districts.
“In Kuala Terengganu, 40 people tested positive for Covid-19 (stemming from) interstate travel by 13 individuals, while in Hulu Terengganu, nine people who entered caused 26 cases.
“In Kemaman, eight people who undertook interstate and inter-district travel led to 24 individuals testing positive for the coronavirus.
“Had these people complied with the SOPs, the infections would not be this extensive, and would not involve their grandparents, aunties, uncles and cousins.”
She confirmed that the Jakel Trading Sdn Bhd outlet’s Gong Badak branch in Kuala Nerus has been ordered closed for 14 days until June 6 after 17 staff were found positive for the virus. – Bernama, May 25, 2021
