M’sia’s Covid-19 deaths up 59.3% compared with a week ago: MoH

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s Covid-19 death cases have jumped 59.3% compared with a week ago, said the Health Ministry (MoH).

In a series of graphics released today, the country’s latest epidemiological week (epid week 20) logged 333 deaths compared with epid week 19 that had 209 victims.

Patients needing intensive care also went up 23.8% week-on-week (w-o-w), as epid week 20 has 573 cases in ICU compared with 463 in week 19.

The MoH also recorded a 29.3% increase in ventilator usage – 313 cases compared with 242. In addition, Malaysia has seen a 32% increase in new cases – from 29,386 to 38,785.

Meanwhile, the nation’s testing capacity has gone up 41% – from 464,596 to 655,117 – and the positivity rate has decreased 0.4% w-o-w.

Epid week 19 saw a rate of 6.3% while epid week 20 has a rate of 5.9%.

Malaysia today recorded its highest-ever daily Covid-19 tally with 7,289 infections, of which 2,642 are in Selangor

In a tweet by Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, other states with high caseloads are Johor (664), Kuala Lumpur (604), Sarawak (513), Kelantan (425), and Negri Sembilan (410).

Kedah has 336 infections, followed by Terengganu (268), Sabah (266), Melaka (258), Perak (218), Pahang (211), Labuan (63), Putrajaya (23), and Perlis (8).

The nation also logged another 60 coronavirus deaths, taking its toll to 2,369. Of the 726 Covid-19 patients in intensive care, 373 are intubated. – The Vibes, May 25, 2021
