KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia today recorded its highest-ever daily Covid-19 tally with 7,289 infections, of which 2,642 are in Selangor.

In a tweet by Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, other states with high caseloads are Johor (664), Kuala Lumpur (604), Sarawak (513), Kelantan (425) and Negri Sembilan (410).

Kedah has 336 infections, followed by Terengganu (268), Sabah (266), Melaka (258), Perak (218), Pahang (211), Labuan (63), Putrajaya (23) and Perlis (8).

The latest infections, only four of which are imported, take the country’s cumulative total to 525,889, of which 63,458 are still active.

The nation also logged another 60 coronavirus deaths, taking its toll to 2,369.

There are 3,789 fresh recoveries, making for a total of 460,062.

Of the 726 Covid-19 patients in intensive care, 373 are intubated.

Among the victims, one was a three-year-old girl who died in the Likas Women and Children Hospital. She was listed as also having leukaemia. The oldest victim was a 93-year-old woman who was dead on arrival at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kota Kinabalu. She had no known comorbidities.

Among the 15 new clusters, 10 are workplace related in Selangor, Johor, Kelantan, Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Kedah, Sabah, Perak, and Pahang. In total, they recorded 247 cases.

There are also four community clusters spread out in Sarawak, Selangor, and Johor, with a total of 84 cases. Lastly, there is a cluster linked to religious activities in Sepang, Selangor with 18 infections.

Earlier today, Dr Noor Hisham warned that Malaysia’s daily cases are following an exponential trend as shown by the graph below.

“The rise in cases started on April 1 and could trigger a vertical surge. We need to prepare for the worst. Please help us by staying home. Only together can we break the chain of infection.

“Neglecting the facts and data is not going to help, or giving all excuses not to stay home. If you have urgent matters to attend to/work, please comply with all the SOPs.”

In a tweet, Sabah Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said Tawau tops the list in the state with 76 new cases today as more close contacts are traced and tested.

“The Lorong Karamunsing KK cluster has spread to Kota Belud (24/29) and Penampang.”

Kalabakan has 25 infections, followed by Kunak (20), Papar (16), Lahad Datu (15), Penampang (13) and Sandakan (12). – The Vibes, May 25, 2021
