KUALA LUMPUR – Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah today wished Malaysian Buddhists a Happy Wesak Day.
In a statement on Istana Negara’s Facebook page, the royal couple expressed hope that this auspicious day for Buddhists is celebrated with new health practices in place, and by prioritising personal, family and community safety.
“Be patient in facing this challenge, and let us all play a role in helping fight the Covid-19 pandemic by practising self-discipline and complying with the standard operating procedures under the movement control order (MCO).”
Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, too, wished Buddhists in the country a Happy Wesak Day, and expressed hope that the celebration is observed with adherence to the new norms.
“In the face of an extraordinary pandemic situation, let us practise ‘self-lockdown’, as well as control the family’s movement, to break the chain of Covid-19 infection.
“Avoid leaving home except for important matters. To reduce mass gatherings in conjunction with the festival, obey the instruction that only religious leaders and the temple management committee are allowed at the houses of worship,” he said on Facebook.
Urging the public to strictly abide by MCO standard operating procedures, Muhyiddin said: “It is to enable us to return to celebrate festivals in our country as lively as before.” – Bernama, May 26, 2021
