MIRI – Sarawak has imposed an immediate ban on visitors who have been to India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal and Pakistan over the past 30 days.
“This decision is part of our effort to ensure we prevent the Indian Covid-19 variant from getting in,” said the state Disaster Management Committee in a statement.
Meanwhile, two more people have died due to Covid-19 in the state, bringing the death toll to 263.
The committee said the two fatalities involve a 65-year-old man in Bintulu Hospital and a 71-year-old woman in Miri Hospital.
Sarawak also registered four new clusters today.
The Kg Semerah cluster in Kuching involves a village and 21 infections; the Jalan Sukma Kuching cluster involves a housing area and 11 infections; while the Semeriang Kuching cluster and Lubok Nitik cluster in Saratok logged 15 cases each.
Active tracing and testing are currently done in these areas.
The state recorded 640 new Covid-19 cases today, with Kuching recording the highest number with 110 infections.
Miri came in second with 101 cases, followed by Sibu (75), Samarahan (30), Selangau (44), Kapit (30), Tatau (29), Serian (25) and Bintulu (23), while other districts have fewer than 20 cases each. – The Vibes, May 26, 2021
