JOHOR BARU – Sixteen members of a family and a manager of a funeral parlour in Jalan Sg Tiram, Ulu Tiram, here, have been slapped with fines for flouting movement control order (MCO) standard operating procedures (SOPs) during a burial service today.
Seri Alam police chief Mohd Sohaimi Ishak in a statement today said acting on public complaints, a team went to the premises at 10am and found that the family members, comprising 10 men and six women, aged between 18 and 86, were attending a funeral service.
All members of the family were fined RM2,000 each as they had exceeded the permitted number of people allowed at a burial service, he added.
Sohaimi said the 51-year-old manager was slapped with a RM10,000 compound.
“The compounds were issued under Regulation 16 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within the Infected Local Areas) 2021.”
According to National Security Council SOPs, the number of family members must not exceed 10 people, not including funeral parlour committee members, for burial services during the MCO. – Bernama, May 26, 2021
