GEORGE TOWN – A 16-year-old student suspected to have removed his pink Covid-19 quarantine wristband was compounded RM5,000 when police caught him at about 2.50am today.
Six policemen and two men on motorcycle patrol units found the teenager in Jalan Permatang Damar Laut. All officers involved have been instructed to observe self-quarantine following the incident.
Barat Daya District police chief Superintendent A. Anbalagan said police found a pink wristband while they were checking the boy’s bag.
“He was compounded RM5,000 for flouting the standard operating procedures and police are investigating further to trace his movements since he should have been in quarantine.”
The teen violated Section 22(b) of Act 342, a person under investigation for not being in quarantine for Covid-19.
In another development, the Health Department had closed the Seberang Prai Utara District and Land office in Kepala Batas from today until May 30.
A notice displayed outside the office stated that a Covid-19 case was detected at the office today and was ordered to close so the staffers who came in close contact with the infected person can undergo screening.
The office will also be sanitised and there will be no counter services until it resumes operation. Online services are available. – The Vibes, May 27, 2021
