KUALA LUMPUR – When 80-year-old Alice Low went to get her first Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 jab at the vaccination centre in Sunway Pyramid near here, little did she know that she will meet one of her idols – Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Low and her daughter, Juliette, were at a registration counter when the opposition leader, who was visiting the centre with other elected representatives, stood behind them to say hello.
Low turned around and was shocked, immediately asking if the man is indeed Anwar.
After the Port Dickson MP answered yes, Low, without hesitation, asked: “Can you become prime minister?”
To which Anwar replied, “Sure!”
Low told The Vibes that Anwar is her first choice for prime minister after he was released from prison in 2004.
“I was excited to see Anwar as he is an idol of mine.”
As to why she wants Anwar to helm the country, Low said he will probably do a better job than the current prime minister.
“It is high time that Anwar becomes prime minister. We have waited too long, and, at least, he is not part of the backdoor government,” she said, referring to the Perikatan Nasional administration.
However, the mother-daughter duo were disappointed as they did not have time to snap a photo with Anwar, after being caught off guard by the latter’s greeting.
Present were former health minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, Subang MP Wong Chen, Petaling Jaya MP Maria Chin Abdullah, Subang Jaya assemblyman Michelle Ng and Kg Tunku assemblyman Lim Yi Wei.
On the vaccination drive, Anwar said it was organised, but urged the government to ramp up procurement of the Covid-19 vaccine.
“Today, a doctor informed me that there is no problem, and people are ready to get immunised.
“In fact, those who have registered are anxiously waiting for their appointment.” – The Vibes, May 28, 2021
