IPOH – Perak mufti Tan Sri Harussani Zakaria today died of Covid-19 after being admitted to the hospital earlier this month.

Harussani, 82, died today at about 3pm at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital here. His death was confirmed by the Perak Mufti Department on Facebook today. 

His deputy Datuk Zamri Hashim also confirmed it in a WhatsApp message to the media.

Harussani and his wife Puan Seri Ainon Abdul Ghani were admitted to hospital before Hari Raya Aidilfitri due to Covid-19.

She was discharged from the hospital on May 21. 

It is learnt that Harussani will be buried at the Kg Melayu Sg Rapat cemetery.

He was born in Parit Tok Ngah, Tg Piandang in Parit Buntar and leaves behind his wife and their four children.

He was appointed Perak mufti in 1985, received several awards such as the 2008 Tokoh Maal Hijrah, and earned a doctorate in Islamic Studies in 2010. – The Vibes, May 30, 2021
