KEPALA BATAS – Police have arrested 29 individuals, 18 men and 11 women, in several premises raided over illegal gambling here yesterday.
North Seberang Perai district police chief Noorzainy Mohd Noor said the raids, which began last Thursday, was jointly conducted by a 72-strong team from the police D7 division at various premises here, in Butterworth, Mak Mandin, Tasek Gelugor, Sg Dua and Telok Air Tawar.
He said the operation, codenamed Op Aidilfitri/Op Covid-19/Op Dadu Bersepadu, is aimed at curbing illegal and online gambling activities in the district.
“We seized 21 handphones that showed betting numbers, six mobile data printers, seven portable printers and betting slips.
“The syndicates are believed to have also been involved in the online top-up business,” he said.
Noorzainy said under Section 4A (A) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, police have requested Tenaga Nasional Bhd disconnect electricity to 29 premises involved in illicit gambling activities.
All those remanded will be investigated under Section 21A (1) of the same act.
Noorzainy also urged the public to inform the police of any illegal gambling activities in their area. – The Vibes, May 31, 2021
