KUALA LUMPUR – There is no need to update your Covid-19 status in the MySejahtera app daily, said National Security Council (NSC) director-general Datuk Mohd Rabin Basir.
He added that the requirement to update your health status only applies to those experiencing symptoms or travelling overseas, reported portal Techarp.
Over the weekend, messages reminding users to update their MySejahtera app daily have been circulating on social media and messaging apps. The fake message also warned that failure to do so will result in a RM1,000 fine.
Fears were compounded by the surfacing of a video clip of a police officer saying MySejahtera app users must update their status every day or risk a RM2,000 fine. However, the video was edited in such a way that it did not provide context to the officer’s statement.
According to the NSC SOPs for the manufacturing sector released on May 31, only workers who are determined to be Covid-19 positive or close contacts are required to provide daily status updates.
For other users, updating their status on MySejahtera is not required unless:
- experiencing symptoms such as cough, breathing difficulty, loss of smell, loss of taste;
- attended events or was at a location linked to a Covid-19 cluster;
- travelled overseas before experiencing symptoms;
- been in close contact with confirmed or suspected cases; or,
- been a Covid-19 volunteer for the Health Ministry in the last 14 days.
Rabin also proposed that Manjung police ask the district Health Department to cancel fines issued to 31 workers for allegedly not updating their health status on MySejahtera.
Sin Chew Daily reported him as saying employees must update their health status only if a case is detected at their workplace.
On Saturday, Harian Metro reported that the 31 workers were fined between RM1,500 and RM2,000 each for failing to update the said status.
Manjung police chief Nor Omar Sappi told the Bahasa Malaysia daily that 29 are workers at an oil and gas company, and the other two at a poultry factory.
Bernama today reported Perak police chief Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid as saying the compounds issued to the oil and gas workers will be cancelled. – The Vibes, June 7, 2021
