KUALA LUMPUR – The government has agreed to defer National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) loan repayments for three months to those who are eligible.
Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Noraini Ahmad said the decision was made as the government is concerned and aware that there are borrowers who are still affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and not able to repay their loans.
“Affected borrowers can submit applications through the PTPTN portal from tomorrow to August 31. The loan repayment deferment period starts from the month the application is approved.”
Noraini said the process will be detailed by PTPTN, and it is hoped that the announcement will help ease the burden borne by borrowers.
Previously, the government postponed PTPTN loan repayments for all borrowers from March 19 to December 31 last year, and gave a special postponement to affected borrowers for three months between January to May this year.
For further inquiries, borrowers can contact the PTPTN careline, which operates on weekdays from 9am to 5pm, at 03-2193-3000. – Bernama, June 9, 2021
