MoH logs 23 Covid-19 cases involving variants

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia has detected 23 Covid-19 cases containing variants of concern following genomic tests between June 3 and 8, said Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

In a statement today, he said there are 19 cases of the Beta variant (B.1.351) and four of the Delta variant (B.1.617.2).

The Beta variant cases were in Selangor (8), Putrajaya (3), and two each here and in Melaka and Kedah, and one each in Perak and Perlis.

The Delta variant cases were detected here (2) and in Putrajaya (2).

As of yesterday, the total number of Covid-19 cases involving variants of concern (VOC) and variants of interests (VOI) stands at 161.

The VOC case breakdown:

- 123 cases with Beta variant (B.1.351) (all local infections);

- 13 cases with Delta variant (B.1.617.2) (eight imported, three local); and,
- nine cases with Alpha variant (B.1.1.7) (five imported, four local).

The VOI case breakdown:

- 12 cases with Theta variant (P.3) (all local);

- 3 cases with Eta variant (B.1.525) (all imported); and,

- one case with Kappa variant (B.1.617.1) (imported). – The Vibes, June 10, 2021
