MIRI – A group of 38 people were fined RM2,000 each after police found them drinking and singing in a pub at 1am in Sibu, one of the worst-hit towns by Covid-19 in Sarawak.
Sibu district police chief Stanley Jonathan Ringit said after police carried out a raid on the pub in Jalan Pahlawan, the patrons were each issued a RM2,000 compound while the owner was handed a RM10,000 fine.
“There were 24 men and 14 women inside. They were drinking and singing, and defying the MCO,” he said in a statement today.
He said investigations found that the pub is owned by a woman who had kept the place open despite the ban on such activities.
