KUALA LUMPUR – Immediately introduce an education road map in addition to a master plan to steer the nation post-pandemic, Pakatan Harapan urged the government.
In a statement, the PH education committee said the nation is still waiting to hear from Putrajaya on its long-term master plan for when the health crisis is contained.
It said many Third World countries already announced out-of-the-box approaches during the Unesco education ministers’ meeting in March.
“Until today, many issues have been raised to the Education Ministry, but none has received a response. In fact, the senior minister and two deputies appear to sideline the voices of the rakyat, teachers, parents and various organisations.”
The committee has made five demands to the government:
- For the Education Ministry to share data on school dropouts during the pandemic and announce a plan to assist them;
- Sharing data on the efficacy of home-based learning, and announce plans to improve the programme;
- Introduce a one-stop centre for educators to upload their teaching materials, modules and exercises for home-based learning;
- Introduce a National Education Action Council comprising experts, professionals, academics, and teachers and parents’ representatives to draft a post-Covid-19 education plan; and,
- Increase TV programmes and video messages to guide parents in helping their children study at home.
