SANDAKAN – Sandakan MP Vivian Wong Shir Yee has criticised the problematic MySejahtera application for confusing people with an unsynchronised system.

She said among the most common problems with the system is the inaccurate vaccination schedule informed to the people.

“From public complaints, it is common that the date and venue of vaccination would later be changed but without notification.

“In Sandakan, the people would receive another notification via SMS from the district health office to inform of the actual date and venue of the vaccination, which is different from what is stated in the MySejahtera app.

“Isn’t this confusing to the people? Which date are they supposed to follow?” the DAP lawmaker questioned in a statement today.

Previously, The Vibes had reported a similar situation where vaccination recipients in Kota Kinabalu had wasted their time after the schedule stated in their MySejahtera app proved to be inaccurate.

They arrived to find that the vaccination centre was closed, despite receiving a reminder from the Health Ministry via SMS and calling for the vaccination a day before.

“The government has spent RM70 million on development of MySejahtera, but it is problematic. It also should have more than just one language; it should have Bahasa Melayu, Chinese and Tamil for all to understand,” she said.

Wong then questioned if the government has carefully examined the capability of KPISoft Sdn Bhd to handle the software.

“With the terrible system that we see now, we could doubt the capability of the company. Also, why is this international company handling our country’s users’ data? Wouldn’t this leak our data to the outside?

“Has the PN government clearly manage on how to protect the people’s data when planning for the main digital management?” she asked.

Wong said that there have been cases in Sandakan that recipients are asked to go to a vaccination centre that is farther than their home, when a vaccination centre is available nearby.

She outright accused that these problems are a reflection that the PN administration is incapable of creating a software that can ensure herd immunity.

The Parliamentarian then suggested for the government to allow residents aged 60 and above to go for walk-in vaccines, which would also avoid wastage of vaccine in the increasing vaccination centres today.

“If this could be done, it will help speed up the vaccination process so as to achieve herd immunity as soon as possible,” she added. – The Vibes, June 18, 2021
