KUALA LUMPUR – Clean-up operations for the affected construction site at the Damansara-Shah Alam Elevated Expressway (DASH) will resume tomorrow morning following heavy downpour that halted works at 3pm today.
DASH developer Prolintas warned highway users to be cautious when passing the affected area as works will be ongoing to clear the fallen scaffolding.
“The right lane on both sides of the NKVE will be closed with a contra lane in place to ease traffic flow. Users are advised to abide by the traffic controller and signboards placed at the location,” the company said in a statement today.
Meanwhile, Prolintas CEO Datuk Mohammad Azlan Abdullah said the company has consistently reminded its contractors to always abide by standard operating procedures, in addition to taking necessary measures in line with highway construction safety.
“Our wishes and objectives are very clear to ensure that the project is constructed in the safest, (most) punctual (manner) and in accordance with the highest standard of engineering practices.
“For the record the construction of DASH involves eight main contractors in addition to the full involvement by independent consultant engineers in charge of the design, supervision and oversight of the project from various aspects.
“However, the incident that occured yesterday evening, was very unfortunate and we along with the contractor involved will provide full cooperation to the authorities and will continue to improve on our processes and project execution.”
Yesterday’s incident saw two Bangladeshi workers injured and admitted to Sg Buloh Hospital for treatment. Work at the affected site has been stopped following the incident.
“The incident did not involve the public or highway users as it took place in a closed construction site. DASH’s emergency response team was sent to the site to help with traffic control and the removal of the fallen scaffolding.”
According to the Fire and Rescue Department report last night, the 7pm incident occurred near the NKVE’s Kota Damansara toll.
It is understood the victims were aged between 20 and 40 years old.
These workers were performing their tasks underneath the concrete slab when the incident occurred.
When rescue personnel arrived on site, they found concrete rubble and steel structures on the highway construction site. – The Vibes, June 20, 2021
