KUALA LUMPUR – A youth activist has been arrested for allegedly insulting the royal institution on social media, said Muda co-founder Amir Abd Hadi.

In a tweet, he said the activist, who goes by Aiman Hakim, was apprehended after he was summoned to the Dang Wangi district police headquarters this afternoon.

Amir’s post included the hashtag #BebasHakim (#FreeHakim) in a show of solidarity.

It is understood that Aiman is being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

Police are expected to apply for a remand order tomorrow.

On Twitter, Aiman, whose handle is @AimanHkim, said he was called in for questioning by police at 10am today, in relation to his tweet that allegedly insulted the royal institution.

However, it is unclear which of Aiman’s tweets is being investigated. – The Vibes, June 22, 2021
