ALOR STAR – Three officers from the Kota Setar district police headquarters are among six people arrested for allegedly breaking into a courier office here and robbing it of RM400,000 in cash, as well as other items.
Kedah police chief Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat in a statement said a plastic bag containing RM232,395 and a yellow Stanley hand grinder were seized from the suspects.
Confiscated from the courier office were a green handbag, a wallet containing an identity card and birth certificate, and two mobile phones, one of which is an iPhone.
The courier company manager in his police report said he received a call from his driver at 2.30am on Wednesday, said Kamarul Zaman.
“The driver informed him that three men had entered the office premises and were in the midst of moving a sack into a white Perodua Axia parked nearby.
“When the manager arrived at the office about 3am, he discovered that the electrical fuse located outside the premises had been removed and a window shutter forced open.
“He reported that RM400,000 was missing from the safe in the office.”
The suspects immediately admitted to committing the crime following their arrest and subsequent detention, he said, adding that the probe is now focused on recovering the remainder of the monies. – The Vibes, June 27, 2021
