KUANTAN – The ongoing enforcement operation against illegal plantations, including Musang King orchards in the Batu Talam Permanent Forest Reserve in Raub, is carried out in accordance with the law, said Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail.

He said the operation was launched following consultation with the state legal adviser’s office, and that it does not involve orchards that are the subject of a case at the Court of Appeal.

An area covering 2,167ha planted with Musang King durian trees is the subject of a court case between 110 farmers and six parties, including the Raub district land administrator, state Forestry Department director and Royal Pahang Durian Resources PKPP Sdn Bhd.

“This enforcement operation involves an area of 101.17ha in the forest reserve. It started on Saturday and is expected to be completed on August 2,” said Wan Rosdy in a statement today.

“This is normal enforcement, but it has been met with resistance and provocation, including abusive words hurled at enforcement officers and staff.

“I hope this is not turned into a racial issue. Enforcement action has been taken in other areas prior to this, such as Sg Ichat and Bertam Valley in Cameron Highlands, and Kechau in Lipis.”

The state government previously carried out an operation in Cameron Highlands targeting illegal land exploration for vegetable and flower cultivation, while the case in Lipis involved gold mining. – Bernama, July 6, 2021
