LANGKAWI – The Langkawi Development Authority (Lada) has come to the aid of the island’s businesses hit hard by the pandemic, waiving rental on premises that it owns and reducing fees for commercial products, among others.
Kedah Menteri Besar and Lada chairman Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said the state understands the adverse impact of the Covid-19 lockdown on the business community, including tourism players.
“This decision is with immediate effect,” he said in a statement.
“The proposed initiatives have been agreed by the board of directors.
“They are aimed at lessening the financial burden on the business community and reviving businesses, including the tourism industry, as 70% of the island’s economy is related to tourism.”
The measures are set to cost Lada RM1.2 million.
Under the state’s corporate social responsibility initiatives, said Sanusi, RM91,400 has gone towards helping businesses.
