KUALA LUMPUR – Ramkarpal Singh, lawyer and DAP veteran, blames the current state of political affairs squarely on former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

“I regret ever working with you.

“You are why this country needs reform. And today you say you want to ‘save the country’?

“You’re the last person who can.”

The Bukit Gelugor MP, in a post on his Facebook account, decried Pejuang’s move of nominating Dr Mahathir for another term as premier.

“Now, he wants to be PM again. As a Malaysian I must ask myself, isn’t there anybody else?

“The same man who promised all those reforms only to tell us he never thought he would have won the elections?”

Ramkarpal also went after Dr Mahathir’s legacy, which most politicians are hesitant to do, given the latter’s outsized role in the nation’s history.

“I respect what you have done in the past. But you destroyed the judiciary, put countless people inside because they went against you.

“Remember the Internal Security Act (ISA)?”

Ramkarpal’s father, the late Karpal Singh, was one of many prominent political personalities to fall victim to the controversial law during Dr Mahathir’s first stint in office.
